Route

Flight from Zurich to Tokyo with Swiss.

Morning arrival in Tokyo. On the way to the hotel, a half-day sightseeing tour of Tokyo begins with the famous Sensoji Temple in the Asakusa district. Afterwards there is time to explore Nakamise Street with its traditional shops and souvenir stalls. Lunch is at a local restaurant, a first taste of Japanese cuisine. Then on to the hotel in Tokyo for check-in.

After breakfast, the full-day excursion to Hakone begins. Together with your tour director you travel by coach into the scenic region around Mount Fuji. In Hakone you first visit the Owakudani valley, a volcanic area with sulphur springs, then ride the Hakone Ropeway across the mountain landscape. After lunch at a local restaurant there is a boat trip on Lake Ashi. Then back to the hotel in Tokyo.

The day begins at the Tsukiji Outer Market, a lively market quarter full of fresh food and local specialities. At a local restaurant you then learn the traditional craft of sushi making and enjoy the sushi you have prepared for lunch. In the afternoon you visit the Meiji Jingu Shrine, one of Tokyo's most important Shinto shrines, and finally the observation deck of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building with its panoramic view over Tokyo. Then back to your hotel.

At midday, transfer from the hotel to the port of Yokohama and embarkation on the Vista. Enjoy your first impressions of the ship and settle into your home for the next 14 days. Overnight on board in Yokohama.

Yokohama is a modern port city south of Tokyo. Around the harbour, the waterfront promenade and the Minato Mirai district invite a stroll, and Chinatown, one of the largest in Japan, is well worth a visit. For a cultural day, head to Kamakura: Japan's former capital lies about an hour away and delights with historic temples, shrines and the famous Great Buddha.

Miyakojima delights with turquoise water, white sandy beaches and a relaxed tropical atmosphere. An island tour with stops at the finest viewpoints is especially rewarding, as is some time to swim and unwind on the beach.

The Keelung Miaokou Night Market is famous for its seafood and Taiwanese specialities. The colourful buildings of Zhengbin fishing harbour make a picturesque backdrop, Ershawan Fort recalls the defence of the harbour in the 19th century, and the nearby Yehliu Geopark is known for unique rock formations such as the famous «Queen's Head».

Kaohsiung is a lively port city in southern Taiwan that combines modern architecture with traditional culture. Discover it on a walk along the harbour, a visit to Lotus Pond or at one of the local markets. The colourful temples are especially worth seeing.

The capital of the Philippines is an impressive, multicultural city where skyscrapers, churches and lively markets alternate. A tip is an excursion to Tagaytay, about 60 km away, past coastal villages, rice fields and coconut plantations, with a view of Taal, the smallest volcano on earth.

The islands of Coron, north of Palawan, are among the most spectacular landscapes in the Philippines: limestone cliffs above emerald water, hidden lagoons, fine sandy beaches and Kayangan Lake, one of the cleanest lakes in Asia. Snorkellers and divers find coral reefs and the famous Second World War wrecks.

Puerto Princesa lies in the central part of the island of Palawan. Its most famous sight is the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park with the longest navigable underground river in the world, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. A boat trip through its limestone passages with their stalagmites and stalactites is a must.

On the north-west coast of Borneo, Kota Kinabalu offers long sandy beaches, coral reefs and tropical rainforest. One of the most popular destinations is Kinabalu National Park, Malaysia's first national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with Mount Kinabalu and more than 1,200 species of orchid.

Swiss Travel Club · Tour director & owner
My first cruise was decades ago. Since then I have had the privilege of accompanying more than a hundred journeys across the world's oceans – both behind the scenes and as a tour director on the front line. Whether on river or ocean ships, on worldwide round trips: my wealth of experience helps me to act in a solution-oriented and competent manner even in unforeseen situations. Travellers value the calm and reassurance I convey – as well as my talent for organisation, which helps to save valuable time and avoid stress.
I lived in China for over 20 years and speak fluent Mandarin – a period that shaped me lastingly, not only linguistically but above all culturally. My deep understanding of intercultural relationships was further broadened by longer stays in North America, Egypt, Spain and Austria.
My philosophy is simple: guests are on their well-earned holiday. They should do exactly what brings them joy – whether alone or in a group.
Travelling together, enjoying individually – that is my aspiration.
