Itinerary
Five days in Venice over the turn of the year: guided walks off the beaten track, two festive concerts and a stylish start to the new year.
Individual arrival at the Starhotel Splendid Venice. In the evening, a welcome dinner together at a restaurant.
A guided walk from the Grand Canal (Scalzi bridge) visiting the Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista, the oldest confraternity with its magnificent halls, the Frari Basilica with works by Titian and the Scuola Grande di San Rocco with Tintoretto's painting cycle, the «Sistine Chapel of Venice». The afternoon is free. Optional at 8.30 p.m.: a performance of «Il Barbiere di Siviglia» (Rossini) at Musica a Palazzo.
Exploring «unknown Venice» with its hidden squares and magnificent palaces, plus a visit to the Gallerie dell'Accademia with Venetian painting from the 14th to the 19th century (Bellini, Carpaccio, Titian, Tintoretto). The afternoon is free. In the evening, a New Year's Eve concert at the Scuola Grande di San Teodoro with musicians in 18th-century baroque costume, followed by the gala dinner at the hotel and the turn of the year.
New Year's concert at the Gran Teatro La Fenice at 11.15 a.m. under the musical direction of Gianandrea Noseda with the orchestra and chorus of La Fenice. Afterwards a festive New Year's lunch. In the evening, an exclusive tour of St Mark's Basilica with its architecture, ornate mosaics and a truly special atmosphere.
After breakfast, individual return journey – with memories of a stylish turn of the year in the lagoon city.
